Since the Catholic Church said that what the protestant were doing was wrong and that they will be cursed for their actions the protestants became scared of the Catholic Church, so the Protestant may have abandoned their place and teamed up with the Catholic Church which puts the Catholic CChurch in a better position
The acts in the council of trent put the Catholic church in a better position to combat Protestantism because they kind of refreshes peoples minds on the things that they wouldn't change. For example,the priests were still the only ones who could grant forgiveness, they kept their idols, and only the priests are aloud to preach or else you are CURSED!
